CIP RC/PT Girder Help

Model Points of Interest Dialog Box

The Model Points of Interest dialog box allows you to add a point-of-interest (POI) to the superstructure in order to obtain analysis and design results are locations not automatically generated by CIP RC/PT Girder. To open this dialog box, click the Points of Interest button located on the Model tab.

A POI can be located using one of three different methods: relative to a span, relative to a support or relative to the bridge, using distances or percents. In addition, a POI may be added and then later excluded without having to delete them. There are buttons to quickly include, exclude and rename all user-defined POIs. Finally, you are able exclude all program-generated POIs.

Adding a POI

Perform the following steps to add a POI to the structure:
  1. In the grid, select the POI you want to add to by clicking anywhere in its row. A blue arrow displays on the left side of the grid to mark the selection.
  2. Click the Add button. This adds a new POI before the selected one.
  3. Enter the POI values in the grid. A definition for each parameter is available below.

Deleting a POI

Perform the following steps to delete a POI from the structure:
  1. In the grid, select the POI you want to delete. A blue arrow displays on the left side of the grid to mark the selection.
  2. Click the Delete button to remove the selected POI.

Using Standard POIs

Select the Use Standard POIs as Well check box to include program generated POIs. This check box is selected by default. Deselect this check box to eliminate program generated POIs from the text reports.

Grid Definitions

SettingDescription
Name Assign a unique name to the user-defined POI.
Reference Type Select the reference type from the drop-down list.
SettingDescription
Span POI location is to be specified with respect to a span. Spans are defined as the distance between supports (piers or abutments) except that the first span is defined as starting at the BB and the last span ends at the EB.
Support POI location is to be specified with respect to a support (i.e. abutments or piers).
Bridge POI location is to be specified with respect to the beginning of the bridge or girder.
Ref Num Reference number when specifying a location by Span or Support.
Ref Unit Click to define the POI location as either a percentage or as a distance in the current units.
Ref Distance Enter the POI location.
Include/Exclude Select Include or Exclude.

Technical Discussion

User-defined POIs are used to obtain results at locations not automatically generated by CIP RC/PT Girder. CIP RC/PT Girder will add finite element node points at user-defined POI in order to obtain results; interpolation is not used.
